Stove Burner Not Working? One Dead Eye, Many Causes
One dead burner shrinks every meal you cook. Electric coil, smooth-top radiant, induction, or gas — each type fails differently, and each has a precise, affordable fix in most cases. We repair all of them, seven days a week across Greater Victoria.
The pattern matters: all burners dead points to the incoming supply or terminal block; just one points to an element, an igniter, or a burner switch. Tell us which, and we arrive with the right parts.
Why Your Stove Is Failing
Failed surface element or radiant burner
Coil and smooth-top elements burn out individually. A visible blister or a cold zone on the glass top confirms it — the OEM element restores full function.
Infinite switch / burner control failure
The control switch behind the knob selects heat levels. When a burner stays on high, won't turn on, or only works at one setting, the switch has failed — not the element.
Induction coil or driver board faults
Induction burners use a coil and driver electronics under the glass. An error code or one dead zone is usually a driver-board repair — precision work we do to component level.
Gas burner igniter or spark module
A gas burner that clicks but never lights — or lights with a weak, uneven flame — usually needs a new igniter electrode or spark module, sometimes just a deep clean of the burner head.
Burnt receptacle or terminal block
Scorched element receptacles and burnt supply lugs kill burners and pose a fire risk. Any sign of charring around a burner is a book-it-today fault.
Cracked smooth-top glass
Radiant elements under cracked glass must not be used. We source OEM ceramic tops for major brands and replace them safely.
Quick Checks You Can Do Right Now
Swap the element (coil stoves)
Plug the suspect coil into a working burner's receptacle. If it heats there, the element is fine and the receptacle or switch is at fault — a cheaper fix.
Check the burner cap seating (gas)
A gas burner that lights poorly often just has a misaligned cap or clogged port. Remove, rinse, dry, and reseat it squarely before booking.
Count the dead burners
All dead = supply/terminal block. One dead = element/switch/igniter. This single fact steers the whole diagnosis — mention it when you call.
