Washing Machine Leaking? Find It Before the Floor Pays
A leaking washer damages flooring, baseboards, and the ceiling below faster than most people expect. Whether it leaks only during the wash cycle, only at the end, or only from the front, the location of the water tells us which seal or hose is failing — and it's usually a precise, affordable fix.
We find leaks with the machine running, not by guesswork. West Coast Wrench serves Greater Victoria and southern Vancouver Island seven days a week with quotes and genuine OEM parts.
Why Your Washing machine Is Failing
Torn door boot gasket (front-loaders)
The big rubber door seal collects coins, zippers, and grit until it tears at the bottom — the classic front-loader leak right at the front edge. We replace the boot with the OEM part and check the drain trap at the same time.
Leaking drain pump or pump housing
Cracked pump housings and perished pump gaskets drip during the drain cycle. If water appears only when the machine pumps out, the pump is the first thing we pressure-test.
Loose or perished hose clamps
Internal fill and drain hoses are held by spring clamps that rust and relax over years. A slow drip from the back of the machine usually traces to one of these.
Failed tub seal or bearing
Water from underneath the centre of the machine — often with a rumbling noise on spin — points to the main tub seal. Caught early, it's a seal job; left alone, it takes the bearing with it.
Oversudsing from the wrong detergent
Non-HE detergent in an HE machine produces a suds overflow that looks exactly like a leak. If the "leak" is foamy, start with the right detergent.
Inlet valve seepage
A slow seep that continues even when the machine is off means the water inlet valve isn't closing fully — a small part with big consequences for your utility bill.
Quick Checks You Can Do Right Now
Note WHEN it leaks
During fill = inlet side; during drain = pump side; during spin = tub seal or door boot. Telling us this on the phone gets the right parts on the van.
Check the connections
Confirm the fill hoses at the wall are tight and their washers aren't squashed. It's the most common "leak" that isn't the machine at all.
Look behind, not just under
A torch behind the machine tells you in seconds whether the water tracks from the hoses, the door, or the pump — before mould starts.
Washing machine Repair FAQ
Why is my front-load washer leaking from the door?
Almost always a torn or warped door boot gasket — coins and zippers wear through the rubber at the six o'clock position. It's a common service repair with the genuine OEM boot for your model.
How much does a washing machine leak repair cost?
It depends on the source — a hose clamp, a door boot, and a tub seal are very different jobs. We diagnose first and present a quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises. Call (236) 330-7180 to book.
