Dishwasher Leaking? Water Where It Shouldn't Be

A leaking dishwasher hides its worst damage below the counter — swollen cabinetry and subfloor warping show up long after the puddle dries. Whether it weeps from the door corners, underneath, or only during certain cycles, the pattern identifies the failing part.

West Coast Wrench pressure-tests the door seal system, pump gaskets, and inlet assembly to find the true source — not just the wettest spot. Seven days a week across Greater Victoria, quote before work begins.

Likely Causes

Why Your Dishwasher Is Failing

Worn door gasket or door misalignment

A hardened or split door seal lets water escape at the corners; a bent door or loose hinges does the same. We check the seal, the strike plate, and the hinge geometry together.

Faulty float switch overfilling the tub

If the float sticks down, the machine overfills until water spills over the tub edge. A sticky float is a five-minute fix; ignoring it floods the floor.

Leaking pump-to-tub seal

Water tracking from under the machine during the wash cycle usually means the pump seal or sump gasket has failed — a precise OEM-seal repair.

Split or sudsing inlet hose

A cracked inlet hose leaks during fill, and suds from hand-wash detergent in a dishwasher overflow the tub from the top. Both are quick to confirm and fix.

Wrong or excess detergent

Regular dish soap or overdosed detergent creates a suds column that pours out the door edges. If the "leak" is foamy, the fix costs nothing.

Cracked spray arm supports

A split spray arm hub sprays water directly at the door gasket from inside, overwhelming it. We inspect the wash system as part of every leak diagnosis.

Quick Checks You Can Do Right Now

Only leaks at the START?

A leak during fill points to the inlet side; during wash, to the pump and spray system; at the very end, to the drain path. Timing is the fastest diagnostic clue we have.

Inspect the gasket by feel

Run a finger along the door seal — hard, compressed, or nicked rubber in one spot explains corner leaks that only appear on heavy cycles.

Check under the sink

The dishwasher's water supply often tees off the sink's hot line. A drip there runs along the supply tube and appears under the machine — misdiagnosed as a pump leak without a proper trace.

Questions

Dishwasher Repair FAQ

Why does my dishwasher leak from the bottom of the door?

Most often a worn door gasket, a misaligned door, or over-sudsing detergent. If it leaks only on heavy cycles, the seal has hardened; if it leaks every cycle, the door itself may be out of alignment. Both are service repairs in most cases.

Can a leaking dishwasher damage my cabinets?

Yes — water travels under the toe-kick and swells particleboard cabinetry and subflooring within days. If you see warping, delamination, or a musty smell, book a diagnostic right away: (236) 330-7180.

Do you service my area?
